Beyond Borders -
February 4 at 7pm film screening & panel discussion led by
guest speaker, executive pruducer, Simon Burrow
Where: The Target Gallery, Torpedo
Factory Art Center When: Friday, February 4 at 7pm Price: FREE www.beyondbordersfilm.com
Torpedo Factory Art Center’s Target Gallery will be screening the film, Beyond Borders on Friday, February
4 at 7pm as part of its special programming for Mixing Bowl, an exhibition examining the hot topic issue of immigration in
America today. We are excited to welcome our special guest Simon Burrow, Executive Producer of Beyond Borders. Burrow, who
is traveling from California, will lead a panel discussion about the film, the issues of legal and illegal immigration, and
personal stories of immigration in America. Additional panelists include our juror for Mixing Bowl, Briony Evans Hynson, Torpedo
Factory artists, Carlos Beltran Baldiviezo and Mirella Belshe, Mixing Bowl artist, Claire Feng, and Studio Gallery in DC’s
Melting Pot artist Joan Belmar.
Film Synopsis: Beyond Borders moves past the headlines and takes an in-depth look at the hot-button
issues of legal and illegal immigration. The film explores the psychological forces driving the immigration controversy from
both sides of the debate. Anti-immigration activists demand we stop this "illegal alien invasion,” while some pro-immigration
forces speak of a Reconquista, a reclaiming of the American Southwest by Mexico. In search of a middle ground, Beyond Borders
travels across the U.S. and beyond to give voices to those on the front-line of this issue, including candid interviews with
Border Patrol agents, radio celebrities, demographers, the Minute Men, potential migrants, and a host of experts including
Noam Chomsky (Distorted Morality) and Gustavo Arellano (Ask A Mexican). Beyond Borders is an entertaining and enlightening
film that asks: Is migration a basic human right? Executive Producer, Simon Burrow will lead a panel discussion immediately
following the film

The World Bank aims to build better societies through lending funds for civic infrastructure, basic services, housing,
and food programs. This is a critical yet utopian agenda that tries to take into account the needs of its constituents. The
goal of this exhibition is to see how artists of this greater metropolitan area interpret the idea of an idyll or a utopian
environment.

at the red carpet like, street level event in AFI's new 2-story high-tech lobby designed by Andres Escobar & Associates.
The Times Square Building, where a classic architectural gem is combined with white glove services to tenants in an increasingly
competitive office environment. Furthering the redevelopment story, a new Times Square retail destination will supplant areas
